Andrean Psychology Team

The Andrean Psychology Team (APT) conducted several activities for its association members to stimulate a holistic development among students. The year kicked off with the screening of an educational film ‘A Beautiful Mind’ which helped the students to develop an insight into the causes and consequences of the psychological disorder, schizophrenia. In the second term, students watched another film ‘The Silence of the Lambs’.

The screening of the films was followed by the Annual Andrean Psychology Quiz Competition. The questions were based on the syllabus and focused on other general concepts of the subject.

Homosexuality has been a topic of controversy and discussion over the past couple of years. Therefore, the association decided to conduct a debate on ‘The Negative Psycho-social Impact of Legalization of Homosexuality’. The competition was intense with both teams well prepared and rehearsed. The opposition proved victorious.

In an attempt to enlighten our students, APT organized a guest lecture by Dr Harish Shetty , eminent psychiatrist of Mumbai, on ‘Life and Learning’. The session equipped the students to meet the challenges in their future life and was appreciated by them. Dr Harish Shetty also proposed a process of ‘ Peer Counseling ‘ – which will enable the students to help their friends to cope up with the minor stresses of life.

Enabling the students to have hands- on experience on the needs and conditions of cerebral palsy patients and rehabilitation training provided to them, a visit was organized to the Spastic Society of India. After this exposure the students showed their willingness to provide voluntary services, whenever required by the institute.

The year’s activities concluded with a thought- provoking essay competition. With the memory of 26/11 still fresh in our minds, ‘Post Traumatic Stress Disorder’ was chosen as the topic. Students delved deep into the topic and voiced their opinions on this subject.

Over and above these activities, students also made presentations in class on topics such as attitude, prejudice, personality disorders, psycho-social development etc. Discussions were conducted on topics like Night Terrors, Hypnosis, and administrations of Psychological Scales on Self- Esteem and Intrinsic and Extrinsic Motivation.
